Sunscreen effectiveness

How sunscreens actually perform in real life — not in a controlled lab.

What it is

Lab SPF ratings assume a thick, evenly-applied, regularly-reapplied coat that almost no one uses in daily life. Cureledger measures what really happens: which products people choose, how they apply them, the UV they meet, and how their skin responds over weeks and months.

How we build it

Where the data comes from.

A hands-on study app

Participants test different sunscreens, photograph their skin over time, and submit structured reports through our study app — turning everyday use into comparable, longitudinal data.

Structured, comparable reports

Each report captures the product and SPF, how and how often it was applied, UV exposure, and visible skin response — so results can be compared across products and people.

What's in the data

The fields you can work with.

Product & SPF
The specific sunscreen used, its SPF, and formulation.
Application habits
How much, how often, and how consistently it was applied.
UV exposure
Sun exposure and conditions during each reporting period.
Skin response
Photographed skin changes and self-reported response over time.

Who it's for

Built for consumer skincare brands and dermatology researchers — to see real-world efficacy, application behavior, and head-to-head product comparisons that lab SPF numbers miss.

Contribute your data.

Each condition has its own app for the people who live it. The Sunscreen effectiveness app is in development — when it launches you'll be able to contribute de-identified data on your own terms and share in the value it creates.
